Terry Caine

Terry Caine joined East Leeds in 1949 as a Junior and in a Senior career which spanned 5 decades, he scored almost 9000 runs and claimed over 500 victims behind the wickets. The following are exerpts from the archives of the club's premier stumper and all round good egg.

Terry paticipated in an opening stand of 163 with Ken Wardman in 1964 at Whitkirk, needing another 13 runs with 5 overs left. But they only managed to score a measly 10 for the loss of 8 wickets. The Whitkirk bowlers were Jack Gahan, taking 6 wickets and Alf Clayton taking the other 2. Needless to say it wasn't healthy to be within hearing of the East Leeds dressing room!!     Wardman and Caine already held the record for the highest opening partnership for the 1st XI, having shared 201  some 7 years earlier against Woodhouse. This record held for 46 years before Troy Arendarcikas and Akhlaq Ahmed put on an unbroken 255 to chase down a challenging total set by Woodhouse at home in 2003.

Not an East Leeds side, but a number of East Leeds players representing the Institute of Domestic Heating Engineers for their 1974 "Plumbers v Merchants clash"

The ringers are:- Back Row  1st Harry Maquire (Umpire)  2nd Terry Caine, 3rd Bill Atkinson, 6th. Jack Render.

Great news for Junior Cricket - East Leeds CC have sponsored the Leeds & District Junior Cricket League for 2018

As most of you are aware ELCC have struggled to gain to raise a junior team for some years now due to the difficulties a lot of other clubs face. The club and committee sat down and decided to do the the next best thing and sponsor the Leeds & District junior league again to help the next generation of cricketers

We also decided to do this as a lot of our current players grew up in the league and are still playing now and would not want to see it struggle. Another reason was Geoff Raw was chairman of the league for many a year before his passing and we want to give something back to junior cricket

We wish the league and all the players playing in it the very best for 2018

Please like & share this post hopefully it will attract more interest to the league, East Leeds CC and junior cricket 📢
