EAST LEEDS 1st XI v GREAT PRESTON 1st XI 25 August

Match Highlights

1st XI (165/8) v Great Preston (162 all out) East Leeds win by 2 wickets

By Tom Chapman

Team – Cunningham, Z Tarvaz, Naylor, Chapman, Muhammad, A Tarvaz, Cannings, Blackbrow, Knight, Hussain, Wilkinson

East Leeds won the toss and chose to bowl on what looked a seamer friendly pitch. The opening couple of overs made this look like an horrendous call, until Banaras Hussain took the first four Great Preston wickets in a devasting four balls! All of a sudden Great Preston were 25-4, which became 44-6 when first Ben Wilkinson (1-36) bowled an unplayable delivery to dismiss Newton and then Baz bowled one which bounced sharply to take his fifth of the match. The Great Preston lower order put up a stout resistance and saw them through to a decent total of 162 all out, Tom Chapman (2-17) taking two wickets before the returning Baz took two more to finish the innings with seven wickets. A fantastic performance from Baz who finished with his best figures for East Leeds of 7-63.

East Leeds lost the early wickets of Zahid Tarvaz and Jacob Naylor to fall to 28-2. Brad Cunningham (41) picked up where he left off last week, batting fluently and put on 49 with Tom (17) before they both fell in quick succession. East Leeds were 85-4 when Saqab ‘Shak’ Muhammad started his work. Shak batted brilliantly for his 42 not out and his composed innings, with a helping hand from Jamie Blackbrow (14) and Baz (9 not out) saw East Leeds through to the victory.

A great win for East Leeds!
