Allan, who works as a joiner, often goes by the nickname of “Peanut”
He has gone through the whole gamut of teams for East Leeds, starting as a 10 year old in the under 11’s and progressing through all the age groups, U12’ 13’s,15s, 17’sand 19’s. Then the 3rd, 2nd and 1st teams. The 2nd team debut was in 1995 against Green Lane, when he “thinks” he got a 50. The 1st team debut was the following year.
Amongst all the players he has played with, James Watling is his favourite player.
As a right hand bat, number 8 is a preferred position, hoping that by then it requires a big “heave-ho” so he can show his big hitting techniques. 87 not out is his top score which was in the 1st team against East Ardsley. He totals over 2000 runs for the 1st team.
Bowling though is his forte. A right arm fast bowler, he admits his pace is now slower, but can claim over 500 wickets for the first team, with a magnificent 9 for 40 against East Ardsley, which included a “hat trick”. No fewer than 8 first team bowling awards have come his way.
When not bowling he enjoys fielding at cover point where a strong arm is an advantage.
Apart from East Leeds, he has dipped his toe in the water at other clubs, with spells at Brighouse, with memories of playing against Phil Carrick, Anthony McGrath and other Yorkshire players.. With Methley when they won the Council play off. Wakefield St Michaels, helping them win the Sunday Cup. A big highlight was a spell in Australian side Albany, winning the League, getting to the Cup Final and winning the bowling award.
